Emergency Medicine fraternity in Pakistan saw a great day when the part 2 exam was held in two different locations, which were Karachi and Islamabad.
College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan approved training in Emergency Medicine around 2010. The CPSP started with two program for the training of emergency medicine and these were shifa international in Islamabad and Aga Khan hospital in Karachi. In the beginning there were very few number of candidates moving to day two programs of training and then as low interest of the doctors to enter into the training program. This has been changed now and increasing number of doctors come to get the training in Emergency medicine as well as the number of centers have increased from two to almost 18. This resulted in increased number of trainees appearing in exam.
Till this year the examination of intermediate module as well as Part 2 used to happen in only one center. It was because of the small number of candidates which were easily managed at one place. This year was historic due to the fact that larger number of candidates appeared in the examination and exam was held in two locations.
India Pakistan war played in as due to banned travel and airspace it was logistically impossible to ask candidates and examiners to gather at single site. Her second sight was chosen and the exam was held in Karachi and Islamabad. It is now obvious that emergency medicine is showing signs of maturity by having increased number of people coming to the training, increased number of supervisors and examiners and finally increased number of trained doctors coming out of training programs. We know that strength is in numbers and increased number of trained emergency doctors mean the people of Pakistan will have quality emergency care through the hands of these emergency doctors.
17th and 18th of may 2025 will go into history as the day of higher significance for the emergency medicine fraternity and the patients. Special thanks to the College of Physicians and surgeons to arrange for the examination in two centers and making the history.
