Dr. Abdus Salam Khan, started his medical career and education from Dow Medical College, Karachi. He them moved to New York and got the training in Internal Medicine before settling in Florida as Internist and Urgent Care specialist.
In 2009, his family made a combined decision to relocate to Pakistan, and serve the country. There was a need to develop Emergency Department in the hospital he joined. Since that day he never looked back and continued his journey to establish Emergency Medicine in Pakistan.
He collaborated with people from Karachi as well as from other parts of Pakistan, and developed a team to work of various fronts. He was part of the struggle to make EM a specialty for the training through CPSP.
He also was member of SEPP(Society of Emergency Physicians Pakistan), and later on after the formation of PSEM (Pakistan Society of Emergency Medicine) became its founder President.
He was Dean of Faculty of Emergency Medicine of CPSP from 2019 to 2023, and with the teamwork tried his best to improve the training program of Emergency Medicine. He is a member of Faculty of Emergency Medicine now and has continued his struggle to improve the EM program throughout Pakistan.
He is also chief Editor of SAJEM (South Asian Journal of Emergency Medicine) since 2018 and serves a very important purpose for the Emergency Medicine enthusiasts. He is also Editor of the Newsletter of PSEM, which started online publication in Jan 2023, and is instrumental in establishing communication within the Society of Emergency Medicine.
His aspirations are to work with all stakeholders to establish more centers and institutions for the training, improve the competencies of the trainees through educational activities and establish new ways to enhance emergency care including pre-hospital care.
