COVID-19: Is vaccination really a solution?

The nightmare of COVID-19 seems never ending. After the first few waves everyone thought we are over it, the vaccines offered by government seem to divide the public opinion with both sides showing strong conviction to their opinion.

Now with the fourth wave, it seems the magnitude of disease positivity has reached unprecedented levels. The hospitals all across the globe have gone to higher level of safety measures to prevent the spread of COVID. The hospitals have reached their maximum capacity and at some places have attained number of COVID positive inpatients not seen in previous waves.

Hospitals are reaching the maximum for the staff utilization and it seems we will be in this state for the next couple of weeks before all is said and done. The healthcare staff exposure is much more and they are turning positive for COVID-19 variance at the same time making it very complex situation.

One thing that is standing out is that the people who were vaccinated are not getting the serious form of the disease and most people who end up in hospitals all in critical state are unvaccinated. This trend is so obvious now that not getting vaccinated seems bad choice for people.

As someone who works in the emergency department and sees patients firsthand, I like to advise all people who are not vaccinated to make it a priority and get vaccinated. As this will give the best chance for us to go back to the previous life of gathering together and meeting each other without fear. The other precaution of frequent handwashing and wearing masks along with social distancing should continue as well till we reach a comfortable time of insignificant infections and no patient exposures.

Be the rsponsible citizen for the sake of yourself and the country and get the vaccination. It will save your life and also will decrease healthcare burden on the system.
