Pakistan Society of Emergency Medicine is holding its second elections. It is creating the required momentum slowly yet surely.
The people who started the emergency medicine in Pakistan had worked hard to make emergency medicine a relevant discipline in health care in Pakistan. Part of that goal was to establish a society of emergency medicine to look into and guard the interests of the patients, doctors and nurses and at the same time help establish and improve the emergency care in Pakistan.
Being a relatively new society this activity is great in itself, as it is becoming a motivator for the people to come together. It also is causing people to think about ways to contribute towards common goals. Everybody understands the value of common platform and benefits of creating this channel for individual and collective benefits for the patients as well as staff.
The last cabinet which is finishing its tenure, represented all corners of the country and consisted of people from following department.
1. Abdus Salam Khan: President. shifa International Hospitals.
2. Emad Uddin Siddiqui: Vice President. AKUH
3. Khawaja Junaid Mustafa. General Secretary. Shifa International Hospitals.
4. Hamid Shahzad: Finance Secretary. Lady Reading Hospital.
5. Ghazanfar Saleem: Secretary Media and Publications. Indus Hospital.
6. Habib Khan: Social Secretary. Lady Reading Hospital.
All volunteer cabinet served the nation for initial 3 years of the society and did very important task of lifting it up the ground and now it is time to elect new cabinet to keep the forward journey with new vigor.
The society is growing and the number of members have reached about 200 till this year 2021. The active members who can vote is about one hundred. The number seems small yet it is a growing trend and expected to increase exponentially. We have made arrangements to have the electronic voting which is web based and the arrangements are made to make it as transparent as possible. Dr. Turab Fatima has cordially accepted to become the chief election commissioner and will oversee the process of election to make sure it is smooth, transparent and flawless.
Through this election process and by the result of this election we indeed will see a group of highly experienced and motivated physicians coming and taking the rains of the society. This is in truly history in the making and we are confident that our journey of Emergency Medicine will get a boost after the new cabinets take their positions and start moving forward. Allah help those who help themselves and try to help others, so through this activity we are observing the selfless gestures and struggles of plenty of people in developing Emergency Medicine in Pakistan thus affecting the working of emergency departments in every possible way.
